Idia Mae DeClue Gilbert, nee Dobbs, 57, St. Clair, departed this life Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at her home surrounded by the love of her family.|
Idia, daughter of Jacob Daniel Dobbs, known to most as Dee, and wife Helen Charlene, nee Courtway, was born Nov. 12, 1956, in De Soto. She was united in marriage to Charles Edward DeClue, known to all as Chuck, April 12, 1974, and three children came to bless this union. On Aug. 20, 2005, she was united in marriage to David Franklin Gilbert, and their families were joined as one.
Idia was a Christian of the Baptist faith, and in past years enjoyed visiting Duly Baptist Church, St. Clair. During her working career, she was employed as a machine operator at Missouri Knife Company, St. Clair. She was previously employed by The Children's Factory and Sunset Nursing Home, Union. Idia was a member of American Legion Post 347 Ladies Auxiliary, St. Clair, and past member and past president of V.F.W. Post 2482 Ladies Auxiliary, St. Clair. Idia was a devoted member of these organizations for 25 years, always there to work in whatever capacity was needed. She was a current member and past chaplain of V.F.W. Post 3987 Ladies Auxiliary, Sullivan. Idia was a very patriotic person, and evidence of this was in the time she gave to the V.F.W. and the donations she gave to the Wounded Warrior Project. What meant most to her was time spent with her family. Her children and grandchildren held a very special place in her heart, as she did in theirs. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will live forever in their hearts.
Idia is survived by her husband, David Gilbert, St. Clair; children, George DeClue and wife Angela, Jason DeClue and wife Tiffany, all of St. Clair, Helen Gardner and husband Dennis, Potosi, Jolena Mayfield and husband Chris, Rock Hill, and Glenna Girardier and husband Tim, Washington; mother, Helen Dobbs, Cadet; mothers-in-law, Beulah DeClue Merseal, St. Clair, and Blanche Maness, Cadet; three brothers, David Dobbs and companion Monica Gray, Jake Dobbs, and John Dobbs, known to all as Jack, and wife Lacey, all of Cadet; two sisters, Mary Bell and husband Terry, Ramsey, Ill., and Barbara Littrell and husband Art, Potosi; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers- and sisters-in-law; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
Idia was preceded in death by her first husband, Chuck DeClue; and her father, Dee Dobbs.
V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary services were held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Strausser officiating.
Interment was in Emily Cemetery, St. Clair.
Memorials may be given to David Gilbert.
