Robert W. Jett Obituary
Robert W. Jett, 78, Union, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 27, 2014, at home surrounded by family.

Bob was born May 6, 1936, in Union. He graduated from Union High School in 1954, and joined the Air Force, where he was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, as a draftsman for four years. While in Texas, he was able to enjoy one of his favorite hobbies, fishing. He caught so many fish on a weekly basis, he sold them to his fellow airmen on base. After his military career, he returned to his hometown and began selling encyclopedias door-to-door, before finding his lifelong career as an insurance salesman. He truly believed in his product and excelled at it, winning 36 incentive trips, including nine trips to Europe and five to Hawaii, in his 41 years of service.

Bob loved to hunt, fish, play poker, bowl, and watch his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. After a life-threatening burn injury in 1986, he was told he had a 94 percent chance of not surviving, and his response was, "Good, cause 6 is my lucky number!" He led his whole life teaching, preaching, and living PMA (positive mental attitude), and is probably best known for this! He recovered and went on to live on his own little piece of paradise in a cabin up in Gasconade County for 20 years. He touched many lives in many ways, and will be severely missed by all who knew him.

Bob is survived by one daughter, Vicki Magaster and husband Bob, Olathe, Kan.; five sons, Eddie Jett, St. Louis, Jimmy Jett, Kansas City, Mo., Greg Benton, St. Clair, Curtis Benton and wife Melissa, Franklin, Tenn., and Troy Jett, Union; two sisters, Betty Grigsby, and husband Pee Wee, Bourbon, and Patsy McKinney and husband James, Union; four grandsons, Ryan Magaster, Dylan Magaster, both of Olathe, Kan., Zachary Jett, St. Clair, and Nathan Benton, Franklin, Tenn.; four granddaughters, Elizabeth Guthrie and husband James, St. Clair, Jessica Beamer and husband Marty, Kansas City, Mo., Kaitlin Benton, Franklin, Tenn., and Lindsey Jett, Union.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Olen and Chrolisineath (Peggy) Jett, nee Knox; and one brother, Charles E. Jett.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Oltmann Funeral Home, 103 N. Church St., Union.

A funeral service was held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 30.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Bob's memory at New Bethel Baptist Cemetery, where he was buried. Please send donations to New Bethel Baptist Cemetery Fund, 412 West State St., Union, MO 63084. Attention: Hettie Becker.

The Jett family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
