Couldn't help but think of Kevin meeting Bishop Welsh at the gates of Heaven where Bishop would "testify" on Kevin's behalf.
He was a good guy. A good server. A man of God who simply tried to live his life the way God had given it: to flourish.

He is now numbered amongst those who have died before their time.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May He rest in peace. May his soul & the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

Julie, Butch, Nicky, Russell, Doug, Joelle and his children, my thoughts & prayers are with all of you. So much of my youth was spent with Kevin and his brothers growing up, running around the neighbrhood. Down at Washington park....oh, and if we were late for dinner, we could always hear Julie or my mom's voice from ...a block away. And the time when you guys moved to the new house and we went for a walk and I was so proud of the bouquet of flowers I picked for Julie that was busheled up nicely with poison ivy. Julie grabbed us all so quick and scrubbed our arms so vigorously I thought our skin would come off, I thought she didn't like my flowers.Kevin, you will be missed so very much. You were a kind hearted great person from an awesome family. I am so blessed I had you in my life to grow up with and to call you my friend. I am so very sad that you were taken from us way too soon. May you rest in peace, and may you find a way to guide your family from above.

Dear Joelle, Logan, Leah, and family,
Our family sends our deepest sympathy. You are all in our hearts and prayers. We will never forget the birthday parties and get togethers we had with you, Kevin, and the kids. Kevin was always a joy to be around because he was such a fun, loving person and a big kid at heart. Maybe that explains why he was an incredible father, amazing teacher, and wonderful husband. We all feel blessed to have known Kevin. He enriched your lives, our lives, and many others. Hold onto those precious memories of Kevin. May they comfort you in your time of sadness and bring you peace. May God bless you all.

Joelle, Logan, Leah and the Bender Family-
Words cannot express our sorrow. My son Nicholas had Mr. Bender for 1st grade at Alburtis and was so excited to have him this year as his Science teacher. No one could ever take the place of "favorite teacher" in Nick's heart. He was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed.
Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Prov 3:5,6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto thy own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths." Mr Bender was a great teacher. My son had him for first and fifth grade at Alburtis. He was thrilled to have him twice. My son struggles with reading and writing and Mr. Bender was very patient with him. I had the privilege of being room mother for 1st and 5th grade while my son was with him, so I got to know him well. Yes, he did love to sing and also was very proud of his children. He will be greatly missed by all. God Bless

Words cannot express the shock I felt when I saw Kevin had passed. I had the pleasure of working with him a few years back when he was teaching 1st grade and he was a fantastic teacher and person. Dear Butch, Julie, Jolles & family,

Words cannot express the loss of your son, brother, husband & father who has touched and impacted so many lives. Butch & Julie, you should be very proud of Kevin's accomplishment of what a truly amazing son he was. We asked oursevles why this tragic loss at his prime time in life, we will never know the answer....but apparently God has a plan for him. Keep in mind "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, loves leaves a memories that no one can steal". May his memories bring you strength and comfort.

Jolles...May you find the strength to continue on, your beautiful children will help you get through some of your most difficult times and remember he will be an angel looking over your shoulder's forever...

It is obvious he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this tragic time.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to all who had the chance to know and love Kevin. Our hearts are filled with sadness for all of you. The greatest gift was to have known him. The memories shared. The love given freely. The laughter and the tears.

Grieve not long but look around, in earthly things he can be found. A falling leaf, a growing tree, in every breeze, flying free. For those you love don’t go away. They walk beside you every day.

Our son, Jaeden, attends Eyer and while he did not have Mr. Bender as a teacher, he has heard so many wonderful things about him.

Our deepest sympathy to the Bender Family.

Mrs Bender and extended family,
My sons were very shocked and saddened at the news about Kevin. Michael had him as a first-grade teacher at Alburtis and when we would go back for our younger sons open house nights, he would always seek out Kevin. They would stand and talk about Penn State football and baseball. Our younger son, Matthew, knew of Kevin as "one of the coolest teachers in Alburtis". He was truly disappointed he did not have Kevin as a fifth-grade teacher. Our prayers go out to the entire family at this stressful time.

Mrs. Bender,

I never had the pleasure of meeting your husband but my son has at Clearview Elementary. He said that Mr. Bender was so nice and would always say Hi to him. My son befriended Logan this year at daycare. We are very sorry for your loss. Almost eight years ago, my children and I lost their father and my husband. We will continue to pray for you and the children that God will comfort you.

I feel truly blessed to have known Mr. Bender. He had my son Brian in 5th grade. His cheerful, positive attitude is what Brian remembers most. "He was always happy." He warmed the hearts of many students, and encouraged many to achieve greatness. Our family is thankful for such a wonderful teacher, and role model. May God comfort you and strengthen you in the days to come. Our family is praying for you all.

I had the pleasure of having Mr. Bender as my first grade teacher his second year of teaching in 1998 at Alburtis. although it's now senior year and most of my classmates and I have led different paths in life since then, the memories we shared that year bond us together. We cannot stop remembering the good times we had like his constant singing, the day he taught us to carve a pumpkin, and his face the day we threw him a surprise party to celebrate his marriage. He was a wonderful teacher who will be greatly missed. The East Penn School District lost one of the best teachers and the brightest smile.

Dear Mr.Bender's Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr.Bender was my 6th grade science and language arts teacher. Kevin Bender was the nicest teacher i have ever had. My friends and I were very sad when we found out that he had passed away. Mr. Bender would always sing womanier and fuzzy and blue. He gave me my first lunch detention (hhaa). Mr. Bender would always help me with science because science is my worst subject. When Mr.Bender was on the computer he would always squint his eyes, and i would tell him to get some glasses. Mr. Bender was amazing. I never got the chance to say thankyou for making me the person i am today. Sorry for your loss :(

Mrs. Bender, Logan, Leah and family,

This is so very hard for me because Mr. Bender was a teacher that I just loved and enjoyed going to his class. He would always come in singing to our class with his big smile. I walked by his classroom today and just started to cry. Eyer will not be the same with out him. There is a reason that God wanted such a wonderful teacher so soon and so fast. He must really need a "Super Teacher" to help him in heaven. It may be very hard for us here on earth but he is doing God's work and helping him now. You will always have your memories to help you thru the hard times and he will always be in your hearts. Mr. Bender will be watching you and looking out for you. My family and I send you and your family our deepest sympathy and prayers. I will think of him often and with a smile

Mr Bender will be greatly missed by all. He was a natural teacher with a warm, compassionate understanding of the children. His smile was contagious and he always knew when a child needed a hug or extra help. My daughter Amanda had him in first grade in 2005-2006 at Alburtis Elementry School. She always hoped to have him as a teacher again as she had such a good year with him. May God bless his family in their time of sorrow and help give them the strength to face this tragic loss. It has been truly an honor to have known Mr.Bender. He is one of those people who come into your life for a short time, but will be remembered always. He was my son's first grade teacher, then to our surprise he started teaching at Eyer. He had a way with children as young as 6 and still remembered and had a great relationship with them as teenagers. He is one of those teachers that kids will remember when asked, "Which teacher inspired you the most"? The answer will always be "MR. BENDER". Mr. Bender will truly be missed, we are very saddened by your loss, and ours.

To Mr. Bender's Family,
May God hold you close and comfort you with the knowledge that he called Kevin home for some greater purpose.

To Mr. Bender's friends and co-workers, remember him as inspiration on the days when you just want to scream...especially if you are a teacher. His passion and fun nature were obvious to all, even those who only ever saw him down the hall.

And to his students,
remember his passion for teaching you, and his wonderful personality as you heal and grow.

I never had the fortune of experiencing Kevin's teaching, but I remember when he started at Alburtis, and if I recall, I helped tutor some of his students when I was in 3rd grade. He was always so kind and fun. I will always have that image of him. God Bless to all, may time heal your wounds.

I keep looking at the news article and the email George S. sent me that terrible morning, because I am still in such shock. It cannot be true that such a vibrant, healthy young man be gone in a blink. I remember first meeting Kevin just after N came home in summer 2003; I was out for a walk with her and came across Kevin holding Logan's hands as he toddled down your path, just learning to walk. It was the first of many, many times I'd see him in your yard, enjoying your children. What a wonderful father.

We are all so sad, and yet know it is a trifle compared to your own loss. You are in our hearts and prayers, and know that we are just steps away if you need anything to help ease your path. Anything at all.

Mrs. Bender and Family-

My name is Morgan Patterson, and I am a seventh grader at Eyer. I also had Mr. Bender for science last year and he was a really good person who would always put a smile on your face, especially with the songs he would sing daily and the little things he did to help us, like the song to remember the different prefixes for science. I know I am definitely not the only one who will greatly miss Mr. Bender and his bright personality. I wish the best of luck to your family and all of us at Eyer want you to know that his memory will always be carried in our hearts and minds.

What a heartbreaking loss! Kevin was truly a class act - a warm, caring compassionate man dedicated to his family and friends, and passionate about his commitment to educating children. I will always remember him as the consummate first grade teacher. I loved watching the children's faces as they looked at their teacher for help. They loved him as much as he loved them - and they knew that he would do anything to help them succeed and flourish! Kevin put his heart and soul into making himself the best educator that he could be in order to make sure that all his students succeeded. He has truly left his mark on the world through his work as a teacher, as a father, and as a friend. I only worked with Kevin for a short time when I was in East Penn, but I will always remember how he touched the lives of so many in such a short time. I am so, so sorry , Joelle. My deepest sympathy and prayers to you and your family, and to all of Kevin's friends and colleagues.

Mr. Bender's family. I am soo sorry about the loss, i know that me and my friends are all effected by Mr. Bender's death. I was in Mr. Bender's 5th period science class last year. I can remember everyday i would walk in the classroom and he would give me the biggest smile and it would just make my day. I remember him singing in class, him making every student confident about their work, his smile everyday (even when he said he was having a bad day), the experiments we did together, and most of all, all of the memories we shared together. He was my first male teacher, and probably the best science teacher i have had. Mr. Bender has touche my life, along with all of my friends. i wish your family the best luck<3

Joelle ~ I struggle to find the words. Just know Kevin loved you and your children. You were blessed to have each other.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers

Joelle, There just aren't the right words to express our sympathy and sorrow during this most difficult time. Please know that Kevin will always be remembered by his coworkers and students as a most remarkable husband, father, colleague, friend, and teacher. He touched every one of our lives and quickly became part of the Eyer family. You, Logan, and Leah are and will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. With our deepest sympathy,

Dear Joelle and Family,

We are so deeply saddened and sorry for your loss. Kevin was such a wonderful and caring person. As a retired elementary substitute teacher from East Penn, I became quite friendly with Kevin. He was always ready to lend a helping hand.

When our granddaughter, Laura, was battling cancer, Kevin was instrumental in raising money for her and her family. We will always remember his kind and giving spirit.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Joelle, Logan, and Leah,
I am so sorry for your loss! Kevin was truly an amazing person and teacher! I had the privilege of working with him a few years ago, when we opened the new Alburtis Elementary School. As a new teacher, he really inspired me and he was someone I looked up to...we had fun singing "Mamma Mia" songs in the hallway -- always with a smile on his face! Kevin will truly be missed by so many! We are blessed that he worked for East Penn and made a difference in the lives of so many children, families, and colleagues! May the Lord comfort you all and give you strength during this difficult time...my prayers are with you and all your family members!

Our thoughts and prayers go to Kevin and his family, he will be deeply missed by all. He has made such an amazing impact in the discrict on so many children including mine. Brent had him in 1st grade and loved him, I also did some volunteering in the class with him and he was always so sweet and spoke so highly of his family. To all of Kevin's most prized possessions...his wife, children, family, friends and students....although it has been more than 20 years since I've seen Kevin, I can still remember those afternoons at the Bushkill baseball fields, hanging out, hoping he was coming to watch his little brother (as I was)...his smile and wonderful personality helping to fill what would have been a "boring" afternoon...I know they say that God has a plan, and although he was taken WAY TOO SOON, and it is almost TOO UNBEARABLE to know exactly why, I'm sure there is a reason...I'm sure his spirit and life has impacted and will live on in so many that he touched....although it has been so long, my heart still breaks for each and every one of you...Here's hoping God will give you all the strength to live on as Kevin would have...Prayers to his family and friends...
