Arthur Wayne Cole
March 3, 1930 - August 13, 2014
La Quinta / Vallejo
It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Arthur Wayne Cole, who passed into the arms of his heavenly father on August 13, 2014, at Eisenhower Medical Center, Palm Desert, Ca. Wayne was born in Carey, Ohio on March 3, 1930, the only son of Harvey and Susie Cole. He had 4 sisters, Patsy (deceased), Carlene, Shirley and Sharon (deceased). Wayne loved life and lived a full one. He drove out to California when he was 16 and lived in Richmond with his aunt and uncle. In 1950, six months after his marriage to Murline Buchanan of Martinez, he was drafted into the Army and served his country in the Korean War. He received a Purple Heart Medal during his service. After his discharge, he returned to his job at Phillips Tidewater Refinery in Martinez until his retirement in 1989. For 26 years of his 38 year employment at Phillips Tidewater Refinery, Wayne served on the credit committee for the Avon Refinery Federal Credit Union, giving up many lunch hours to help co-workers obtain loans through the credit union. He also spent several years volunteering at the Avon Refinery Fire Department. After his retirement, he enjoyed many years of travel domestically and abroad with his wife, Diane Rodgers, whom he married in 1977. They have also enjoyed their second home for many years in La Quinta, Ca. during the winter months. Wayne is survived by his wife Diane, his children, Melinda Mares (Art), Jeanean Mason (Roger) and Jamie Cole (Christine), his stepchildren Michael Rodgers and Pamela Sanza (Frank), 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Wayne will be remembered for his unconditional love, his tender heart and his beautiful smile.
