Gail Powers Apr. 1951 Mar. 2014. Resident of Martinez Gail Douglas Powers passed away on Friday, March 14 after a courageous battle with Lung Cancer. Gail was a friend to many, and is deeply missed. Gail was born and raised in Winthrop, Massachusetts, the eldest of 6 brothers and sisters. Soon after graduating from Winthrop High School, she moved to California, and settled into life in the Bay Area. She enjoyed a 25 year career with Chevron (formerly Standard Oil Company of California), which took her from offices in San Francisco to Concord to San Ramon. Upon her retirement, Gail settled in Martinez, a warm community reminding her of the closeness of her home town. During her career, Gail captured the heart of another Chevron employee from Houston, David Dyche, who moved to join her life in Martinez in 2006. Gail was a Beautiful and Generous Soul who touched a large number of lives. She continued to work to improve the world, working for Habitat for Humanity, joining the Martinez Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and giving her time and heart to countless friends and strangers. Gail was also active in two organizations in Martinez: The Martinez Yacht Club, and The Women of the Moose-Martinez Chapter 519, volunteering for several offices in that charitable organization. Gail was a fierce pet lover and advocate, and adopted or rescued many dogs and cats over the years, who reflected the love back to her and David. In retirement Gail humored David's love of travel, sharing many adventures in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Texas, Florida, and Mexico. Gail loved warm sunny days, especially those spent on beaches. Gail is survived by her loving partner and fianc‚e David Dyche. She was preceded in death by her parents Natalie and George Hill of Winthrop, MA. Gail is also survived by her three sisters: Karen Hill, Janet Cushing, and Holly Mory; and two brothers: Douglas Hill, and Sandy Hill. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Gail's life on Saturday May 3 at 11:30am, to be held at the Martinez Yacht Club, 111 Tarantino Drive; Martinez California. Please join us while we share stories, and stay for lunch. Gail would want you to dress casually. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity benefiting less fortunate people or animals (Cancer Research or patient support, Food Banks, Pet rescue) or the .
