Gordon Bruce Keates Oct. 17, 1917 - Mar. 1, 2014 Resident of Manteca REVISION Gordon Bruce Keates, 96, entered into rest on March 1, 2014 in Manteca surrounded by his family. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 31, 1917. In heaven Gordon joins his loving wife of 57 years Eva Keates. Gordon leaves behind his nieces, Mary Ann Frances of Castro Valley, Barbara Bieber of Arroyo Grande and June Evans of San Lorenzo and nephew, Jerry Bassler of Laytonville. His grandnieces and nephews, Kathy Hayes (Jeff) of Manteca; Ron Nunes (Kate) of Poulsbo, WA, Robin Mendez, Matthew Francis, Katie Simpson, Anne Bush, Patrick Scanlon, Marie Scanlon, Julie Cochran, Wendy Evans and Jim Evans. Gordon was also blessed with many great grandnieces and nephews. Gordon was a Castro Valley resident prior to moving to Manteca in 2012. He graduated from Hayward High School class of 1934. He then went on to honorably serve his country with the United States Army from 1943-46 and was stationed in Europe. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Hayward and served as Commander. Mr. Keates retired from EBMUD in 1975 after 36 years of service. The loves of Gordon and Eva's daily lives were their dogs and on occasion, a cat that they rescued. He was generous and had a true giving spirit. In his last years he focused on contributing to many animal organizations, conservation advocates and health research. Until the very end, Gordon was independent and lived with his dog, Ginger. They were a sweet pair. He loved his family dearly and looked forward to time spent with them. He will be remembered as a loving uncle and friend. He will be truly missed. Services will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 11:00 for Visitation and 12:00 noon at Holy Angels Mortuary, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward. He will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulcher, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward on a later date.
