Jerald Arden Keen entered peacefully into rest at San Ramon Regional Medical Center on August 20, 2014. He was 83 years old.
Born in Lebanon, Kansas on February 12, 1931, Jerald was the only child of Gilbert and Lona Keen. He moved with his parents to Grand Island, NE as a young boy and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1949. He met the love of his life, Sharleen, in 1947 while managing the Grand Theater. They would later marry in 1951 and have 2 children, Kevin and Valerie.
Jerald was a career military serviceman, proudly serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a Senior Chief at the end of his 20 year career and had served in both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Jerald started the next chapter of his life as a tax analyst for Chevron Corp. He continued with Chevron for 20 years before retiring.
Jerald was a 61 year Master Mason with the Ashlar Lodge, #33 in Grand Island. He and Sharleen were active with Eastern Star, Diablo Star of Orinda for 54 years. Jerald was also active with the Scottish Rite of Oakland and a longtime member of the San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church in Alamo. He was treasured by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
Jerald is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 62 years, Sharleen Keen of San Ramon; his devoted children and their spouses, Kevin and Tamra Keen of Pleasanton and Valerie and Michael McClory of Hurricane, Utah; sisters in law, Wilma and her husband, John Lessig of Grand Island, NE and Janice Cox of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Margaret and her husband, William; Kathleen and her husband, Michel, Kenneth, Kevin Jerald II, Christine, Kristen and Allison; great grandson, Maison and 1 unborn great grandbaby; many cherished extended family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Jerald's life at 11 am on Monday, August 24th at San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church, 902 Danville Blvd., Alamo. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 26th Trinity United Methodist Church, Grand Island, NE. Jerald will be laid to rest with military honors at Grand Island Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Shriner's Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
