Resident of Concord
Louis Michael Ellis, 89, died November 19, 2013 surrounded by family in Walnut Creek. Lou was born in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1948. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. Dr. Ellis taught at several dental schools including Diablo Valley College, where he was an instructor in Dental Hygiene and the University of California as an instructor in Practice Management. He had a successful General Dental Practice in Concord from 1953 - 1991. Lou was a member of Contra Costa Dental Society for 60 years, serving as President and Chairman of the Ethics Committee. He was a member of Diablo Dental Academy and California Dental Association. Dr. Ellis was named a Fellow in the American College of Dentists in 1982.
Flying was a passion in the Ellis Home! Lou held many certificates; Private Pilot, Commercial Rating, Instructor and Air Transport Pilot to name a few. He built experimental aircraft and won awards in several air shows. Lou was a member of Experimental Aircraft Association. He was a founding active member of St. Bonaventure Church.
Lou is survived by his wife of 68 years Grace Ellis, daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Cameron Carrington, son and daughter-in-law Drs. Ted and Dianne Ellis, daughter-in-law Erma Ellis, grandchildren Laurel, Venus, Maegan, Nicole, Hannah, TJ, Grace, Mary and Kathryn and three great- grandchildren as well as a brother Richard Ellis and a sister Rita Garmon. He was predeceased by daughter Catherine in 2004 and son Michael in 2009.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 23, 2013 commencing at 6:30 PM with Funeral Liturgy at 7:30 PM at St. Bonaventure Church, 5562 Clayton Road, Concord. Private interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette. Memorials may be made to St. Bonaventure Food Pantry in memory of Dr. Ellis.
