Resident of Oakley
A long-time resident of Oakley, Calif., Mary Katherine Morris passed away due to complications from surgery. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23, in Concord.
Born in the City of Orange in 1956, Mary was preceded in death by her parents Dennis and Marilyn Long. She is survived by her husband Alan Morris, her children Andrew and Amy, her daughter-in-law, Corby, her grandchildren, Kailey, Faerlene and Theodore, along with siblings, William Long and Pamela Long.
Mary lived a full and active life. She grew up in Millbrae and attended Mills High School. Mary's first two years of college were at UCLA where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Mary graduated with a BA in history from San Francisco State University and shortly after met Alan Morris and they were married in 1981. They moved with their young children to Oakley in 1986. Her part-time position as the office manager for Central Valley Tire in Pittsburg allowed Mary time and energy to devote to her school-aged children and to pursue her involvement with Soroptimist International of Pittsburg where Mary held several offices, including chapter president. Since 2009 Mary has been an active member with Soroptimist International of the Delta. Her most recent employment was with Meals on Wheels where she delivered meals to seniors and handled administrative duties as well. An enthusiastic traveler, Mary and Alan enjoyed several domestic and international adventures, including a recent European cruise.
Leaving behind many dear friends, co-workers and Soroptimist Sisters, Mary will be most fondly remembered for her kind spirit, her warm and welcoming heart, her beautiful smile and her easy and genuine laugh. She will be profoundly missed.
Funeral services will be led by Deacon Tom Kelnhofer of St. Martin of Tours, Saturday, August 23, at 11 a.m. The church is located at 5294 Concord Blvd. in Concord. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation to Soroptimist International of the Delta providing scholarships and supporting local projects for at-risk and underprivileged women and girls. Send your donation to SI Delta P.O. Box 97 Knightsen, CA 94548. Donations to your local Meals on Wheels chapter would also be greatly appreciated.
