Robert Myhre Obituary

Robert Myhre
Oct.27, 1926 - Apr.6, 2014
Resident of Alamo
Bob Myhre was surrounded by loved ones when he passed after a long battle with cancer.
He was a dedicated Rotarian. In 1981 - 1982 Bob was both President of the Rotary Club of Alamo and District 516 Rotarian of the Year. His dedication to helping others extended to numerous services and endowments through Rotary, supporting Contra Costa County school libraries, Meals on Wheels, and other projects. In 1990, Bob was recognized as Alamo Citizen of the Year for his unique commitment to the Alamo community.
Bob also gave to the loacl citizenry with his commissioning of an artist to carve his redwood tree stumps into sculptures of Kodiak bears. These sculptures are enjoyed by all who frequent the Iron Horse Trail north of Livorna Road.
Bob was a proud US Navy veteran, enlisting as soon as he graduated from Bismarck, ND High School. He served in both WW II in Guam, and the Korean War in Kodiak, AK.
Bob also was proud of his Scandinavian heritage and contributed as a Sons of Norway member, the State Historical Society of North Dakota, the Lewis & Clark Foundation, and other groups.
Bob was born in Bismarck, ND and never lost his love of growing up on the prairies of North Dakota. He started his sales career as a paper boy for the Bismarck Tribune. After he graduated from Macalester College, St. Paul. MN and the University of Minnesota, Bob went onto successful sales careers with Munsingwear and other companies, ending his career as a real estate broker in Alamo.
Bob is survived by his wife of 39 years Betty J. Myhre, his children Dianne Myhre, Patricia (Prin) Myhre, Kay (Myhre) Reed, Grady Myhre, four grandchildren, and Betty's daughter Cathy May, and Betty's numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A special acknowledgement is given to Betty's granddaughter Christie Gerling who was "Grandpa Bob's" helper for his final weeks. Her loving care of him helped make his passing easier. Bob was preceded in death by the passing of his youngest son Christopher Myhre.
Bob was cremated and his ashes will be interred in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetary in Mandan, ND. Bob's final wish was to return to his birthplace, and his children will see that he finally rests in the prairies of North Dakota.
