Ronald Niels Carlberg Obituary
Ronald Niels Carlberg
Apr 24,1937 - June 27,2013
Resident of Concord
Ron lost his battle with lung cancer on Thursday, June 27th, he was 76 years old. Ron passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by those he treasured the most: his family. He was born in Chicago Illinois, whose parents were immigrants. He lived his young years in Chicago and ended up joining the Army in 1957. On June 14, 1957 Ron met the love of his life, Marcia over a flip of a coin. They got married in Chicago on September 10, 1960. Ron and Marcia moved from Chicago with their baby daughter (Donna) to Southern California in 1961 where Ron started a new job as a draftsman working for C.F. Braun. In 1963 their son Doug was born and after living in Southern California for 9 years, Ron and Marcia decided to move to Concord California where they have been living ever since. Prior to moving to California, Ron started his career in engineering after studying mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois. He started as a draftsman and worked his way up to design and eventually project management for the petro chemical, water treatment and chemical industries. He spent most of his career working for such companies as Jacobs Engineering, AFB Contractors, Dyn Construction, Parsons, Monterey Mechanical and General Chemical. During Ron's career he worked in Saudi Arabia during 1983 and 1984. During this time Ron and Marcia traveled all over Europe and parts of Asia. He occasionally worked as a Consultant and even started his own Consulting business called RSL Consultants. Ron loved his work and took great pride in his design of process and piping systems. His favorite hobby (besides watching sports and crossword puzzles) was doing woodwork. He made beautiful lamp bases, tables and benches that were made of a variety of different wood types. Gambling was Ron's passion and he enjoyed the casinos in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Reno including Cache Creek. Traveling including road trips and cruises around the world was something that Ron and Marcia absolutely enjoyed. Ron will be dearly missed by his family and friends for his laughter, easy going personality and infectious smile. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Niels and Mildred Carlberg of Chicago Illinois. He leaves behind his wife Marcia of 52 years and their two children Donna (Todd) Rammell and Doug (Alison Shinn) Carlberg. Ron was an attentive grandfather to his three grandchildren who will deeply miss his wisdom and playful personality. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano County or the National Society of Multiple Sclerosis. A celebration of Ron's life is being arranged.
