Terry Mahuron Obituary

Terry Glenn Mahuron
Dec. 19, 1941 - Nov. 6. 2013
Resident of Fremont
Terry Mahuron, prominent Fremont businessman and devoted husband and father, died suddenly on November 6, 2013 from a heart attack. He is survived by his wife of 29 years and their three children.
Terry was born in the small farm town of Greensburg, Indiana and raised as an only child by his mother, Evelyn Dea Webster, a teacher at the local high school, and stepfather, Al Webster, a World War II Air Force veteran and agricultural consultant. From an early age, Terry demonstrated an exceptional ability for math. This ability supported him through a Bachelor's degree from Purdue University and a Master's degree from the Univeristy of Illinois, both in Physics; earned him esteemed internships with the NSA and NASA; and culminated in a national-record-setting score on the GMAT and a full scholarship to Stanford Business School as the youngest member of his class. He earned his MBA in 1966 and remained a resident of the Bay Area for the rest of his life.
After a period spent teaching Economics at Stanford and San Jose State and a five year tenure in the biotechnology corporate world, Terry founded Serra Corporation in 1978, a precision sheet metal manufacturing company which catered to the rapidly growing electronics industry of Silicon Valley. Under Terry's guidance, Serra grew to more than 800 employees at its peak, with plants in the Bay Area, California's Grass Valley, and Texas. Terry often described his life as the quintessential American Dream: from small town Hoosier farm boy to CEO and President of a thriving Bay Area manufacturing firm.
Terry met his wife, Martha, in 1982 at the dinner party of a mutual friend. They wed in 1984 and have three children: daughters Kelly Maria, and Kerry Katrina, and son Ryan Glenn. He and Martha built a home together in Fremont's Warm Springs district, and for many years Terry was actively engaged with Fremont's schools, businesses, and city government as a civic and community leader. He was especially proud of his contributions to youth and high school sports. Over the years, Terry coached successful basketball, baseball, and tennis teams for school and community leagues. In this way he left behind a legacy of excellence that encompasses both his own children and the many children he taught and supported as "Coach Terry."
He is loved and missed immensely as a husband and father, and will be remembered for his ethics and integrity; his wry sense of humor; his passion for books, movies, and puzzles; his talent for business and finances; and his good and decent spirit.
A memorial service will be held at Bridges Community Church in Fremont on Saturday, December 7 at 2 PM.

This message is a bit late, but I want to add it anyway. To the Mahuron family, my deepest condolences. Terry was my boss at Serra Corporation in Nevada City. He employed a lot of people, which helped support our community for so many years. I am saddened to hear of his passing. I know he is missed.

Terry was a customer of mine from '87-'93. I really enjoyed calling on him with his office in the Serra lobby back then. He was brilliant, humble, fair and had the highest integrity. He gave me great advice which I still apply to my business today. My condolences to his family on the passing of a great man.

Terry was our son's basket ball coach for three years. Terry was a loving father, a devoted husband, and the best mentor our young teenager son could have had. Not only did he teach the boys the skills to perform in the game, he inculcated confidence and leadership, and taught valuable life lessons by his own example of selflessness, hard work and caring. Terry's passing is a loss to all of us in the neighborhood and community. He was respected and admired by all of us in our family. Coach Terry, you will be deeply missed.

We were one of the many families whose lives were so positively touched by Terry's baseball coaching. He generously gave his time and knowledge to those kids, helping them develop skills and confidence they would carry with them for life. Each of his athletes gained from being on Coach Terry's team because he genuinely wanted them to reach their full potential. He was a great husband to Martha, a great father to Kelly, Kerry, and Ryan, and a great coach to so many kids. He led a great life and left us richer for it.

We will miss Terry's gentle, yet passionate spirit...the example he demonstrated as a husband, father, friend and business man. I will personally miss Terry for our conversations on bridge, raising children, politics and the global financial world! I am blessed to have known Terry. I am saddened by the Mahuron family lost. It is well that we will be able to continue sharing when we meet again in heaven.

A person is judged best by viewing those who he affected and influenced the most. In almost all cases, that would be one's family. When you look at the Mahuron family, you see the quiet dignity and true American values such as selflessness, humility and devotion to family and community that make this country great. He was and always will be a role model to me.

I have been an employee for Terry's company since 1981 when the company was only 3 years old and I was an inexperienced 22 year old. During the next 32 years, he shared his wisdom and experiences. He gave me opportunities that very few enjoy in a career. I started as a shop floor machine operator until I became his "right hand man". Along the way he taught me everything he knew in business. He was also a friend whenever I needed it. He never forgot those who helped him build his company. I am deeply saddened at the loss of a very influential man who enriched my life with his knowledge and generosity.
God bless you Terry, Good-Bye sir, you have earned your rest.
