GIESAKING, Yvonne B. 80, of Scottsdale, was called to Heaven on Sunday, July 21, 2013. She was born January 26, 1933 in Emporia, Kansas to the late Charles and Lillian Schoonover. She attended and graduated from Garden City High School where shewas involved in several band and choral ensembles where she either played an instrument, sang with, student directed or accompanied every group. Yvonne married her High School sweetheart, Melvin Eugene Giesaking, in Garden City, Kansas on February 7, 1951. They had four children and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1959 where they built their first home and celebrated the majority of 62 wonderful years of marriage together.She received her Bachelors and Masters in Teaching from Arizona State University and began her teaching career in 1965. Yvonne was a 1st Grade teacher at Flora Thew Elementary School in Tempe, Arizona for 24 years until she retired in 1989. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students and was one of the first bilingual teachers in the entire state. Being teachers and having the summer months off, Yvonne and Melvin decided to build a cabin at Stoneman Lake in 1969. Little did they know that this place would become very special to them and their family in the years to follow. They built five cabins in all representing ten years of hard work but the family was always together. She was the inspiration for everything that Melvin built. Yvonne was an active member of the Scottsdale Presbyterian Church where she was head of Christian Education and co-chair of the Sunday School education program for six years. She dedicated herself to the music program where she either sang with, directed or accompanied several groups and musicals for over 40 years. Through Meals-On-Wheels, Yvonne delivered meals directly to the homes of seniors whose mobility is limited for eighteen years and she was an integral part in remodeling the church's Fellowship Hall kitchen.She is survived by her husband Melvin, her four children, Gene Giesaking and his wife Saundra, Kim Giesaking, Kurt Giesaking and his wife Jennifer, Kyle Giesaking-Nasser and her husband Chuck. Grand children include, Derek Walker, Christina Pierson and Charles Boynton. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.A special Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7th, 10:30 am at the Scottsdale Presbyterian Church, 3421 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Scottsdale Presbyterian Church Yvonne Giesaking Memorial.
