Jim to most, Jimmy to his grandchildren
On July 17, 2013, Jim Nicholson of Edmonton passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife Lise, sons Michael (Cheryl) and David (Gloria) and daughter Lyette Adams (Denis Beaulieu). Jimmy's pride and joy were his grandchildren: Owen, Stephanie, Danielle, Julia and Matthew. He is also survived by siblings Rosaleen Zylstra, Marylynn (Gerry) Lemke, Dennis (Kathleen) Nicholson, sister-in-law Gayle Nicholson, Julia and Matthew's father Barkley Adams, his "Oncle" Gilles Patenaude, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and many dear friends.
Also mourning his loss, mother-in-law Yvette Leduc, brother-in-law Dr. Denis (Jane) Leduc, sister-in-law Andree (Lloyd) Johansson. Jim was predeceased by his brother Bill and by his parents Howard and Ina (McCool) Nicholson.
Jim was an award winning salesman and was well respected by the Edmonton business community. He was a member of the Rotary club. He lived their motto of "Service Above Self". His focus was the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program. Encouraging the youth of the world to expand their world view, to volunteer, and to travel internationally was a source of great joy for Jim and his family.
Many of Jim's best times were spent with his family and friends at his beloved cottage at Jackfish Lake. He loved great wine, gourmet cooking, travels near and far, photography, happy hour and midnight cruises. Always proud of his Irish-Scottish heritage, Jim always made time for a Guinness or a single malt scotch.
A Catholic Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2013. Connelly-Mckinley Funeral Home, 10011 - 114 St. Reverend Michael McCaffery will be officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made directly to the Edmonton Youth Emergency Shelter, Box 4970, South Edmonton Station T6E 5G8.
