BELLAMY, Lorna Ellen (Whish) M.D.
Lorna was born in Carlyle, Saskatchewan on January 31, 1920 and died peacefully in her sleep on May 1, 2014 in the Wetaskiwin Continuing Care facility.
She is survived by her four children, John Bellamy (Andrea Ross), Anne Bellamy, Judy Cook (Wally) and Chris Bellamy (Ruth); six grandchildren, Cheryl Cook Cameron, Michael Cook, Carolyn Cook, Holden Bellamy, Rowen Bellamy and Tarquin Bellamy and her devoted caregiver Hargie Ranin.
Lorna was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Richard P. Bellamy; sister, Winnie Whish and her parents, John Henry Whish and Eveline Tweed Dandy Whish.
Lorna was a brilliant student who completed high school at fifteen and received the Governor General's medal for the highest marks in rural Saskatchewan. She won the Dean Lindsay silver medal for Medicine and completed her Arts degree with Great Distinction in 1939. Lorna graduated in medicine at the University of Toronto in 1942 winning the William Boyd gold medal there. Lorna and Dick both enlisted in the army and were stationed in Winnipeg during WWII. They were married on May 24, 1946.
Lorna was an avid reader, an early enthusiastic tennis player and enjoyed playing bridge with numerous friends in Wetaskiwin. She loved the time spent at the Pigeon Lake cottage. Lorna and Dick also liked to travel throughout North America with their kids and later enjoyed many vacations traveling with friends.
At Lorna's request, there will not be a funeral service. Lorna will be Interred in the Wetaskiwin Memorial Cemetery in July and family and close friends are invited to attend. If friends or family wish, donations in her memory can be made to SPCA or the Salvation Army.
