WERNER, Shelley Glynis
(née Harrison)
May 26, 1960 – October 5, 2013
Shelley passed away in Nanaimo after a nine year battle with breast cancer. She is predeceased by her parents, Thurston and Evelyn Harrison.
Shelley is survived by her husband, Ken; her son, Brandon (Morgan); her daughter, Jessica (Jason); her sisters, Virginia, Laura, and Joyce; and her brothers, Grant and Dale.
Shelley was born in Edmonton, Alberta on May 26, 1960. She and her family moved to Nanaimo in 2002, where she continued her life-long career of social work. Her contribution to community care of persons with disabilities will be missed by many who knew her and knew of her excellent work with Nanaimo Association for Community Living.
She was a gentle woman who enjoyed time with family, friends, co-workers, and spending a few hours at the casino as a way of unwinding from her busy day. Her biggest joys in life were her children and her beautiful grandchild, who arrived shortly before her passing. Nothing made Shelley happier than her children, and she was the most important part of their lives.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dunne, Dr. Carr, and the nurses at NRGH. Special thanks to the nurses and caregivers from Nanaimo Home Support (Palliative Care) who were integral to having Shelley remain at home, surrounded by her family and friends. Special thanks to Lorraine and Sarah of Homecare for being so kind to Shelley and her family. Special thanks to Lisa, Marlena, and Marilyn for your compassion in our hour of need. Special thanks from Ken to Laura and Joyce for their invaluable assistance and care.
A Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on October 26 at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens (2347 Cedar Rd, Nanaimo). Following the Service, a Celebration of Shelly's Life will be held at NACL's Actions Day Program (83 Victoria Cres, Nanaimo). Please consider making a donation to a breast cancer charity of your choice.
"Peace came upon her like a dream. So sleep, silent angel; go to sleep."
