Obituary Condolences

Cheryl Baker Heller lost her battle with cancer Friday, August 1, 2014. Born on July 12, 1954 in Tacoma Washington, Cheryl was famous for her infectious laugh and bright smile. She was the Director of Developmental English at the University of Texas at El Paso for over 20 years. Her father was in the military and she spent her youth moving to different cities and making life long bonds. She had picturesque teenage years living on the island of Kwajalein, where she attended high school and made life long friends. Cheryl finally settled in El Paso, where she met and married the love of her life, Maurice Heller. Together they traveled the world and participated in teaching overseas. Cheryl and Maurice shared an abundant love for their two daughters, Sarah and Meagan. Cheryl was a lover of the arts, avid reader, and women's rights activist. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Maurice Heller, and her father, Frank Baker. She is survived by her daughters Sarah Heller Pena (Marcos) and Meagan Heller, mother Ryuko Tsujimura Baker, and brothers Frank (Hannah) and Tom (Cristy) Baker. Lastly she leaves behind her first and only grandson, Jackson Moses Pena, whom she loved with every fiber of her being and often referred to as her corazon. Cheryl's family would like to extend a special thank you to all her family and friends for being so courageous and loving with her during her last few years. She felt like the most popular girl in the hospital. Cheryl will live on in those who loved her. Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at B'nai Zion Cemetery. Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr., El Paso, Texas 79912.
