HAROLDEAN RILEY Obituary
Haroldean (Petey) Riley went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 22, 2013 at the age of 92. She was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on November 27, 1920 to Harold and Hermina Graves. Preceding her in death were her parents and sisters Mildred, Maurine, and Kathleen. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Linda Burris of El Paso; grandsons Kenneth Little of El Paso and Thomas Little of Chico, California; great grandchildren Gibson and Matilda Little, also of Chico, California; her sister Sandra Teston (Milton) of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico; plus numerous nieces, nephews, and their spouses. Petey was a civil service employee at White Sands Missile Range for 20 years before medically retiring in 1972. After her retirement, she worked for Coaches of America Life Insurance Co., Associated Builders and Contractors and Aaron Rents Furniture Co. During the late 70's and early 80's, she was an active member of Parents Without Partners where she served on the Board of Directors, twice as President. It was also in 1970 that she helped spearhead the Poise and Personality Program with El Paso members of the American Models Guild by donating her time part of the Mayor's Youth Opportunity Program. It was through this program that she met her long-time friend, Frances Erickson. In 1992 she was the volunteer Office Manager for Chip Taberski's congressional campaign. In 1995 she was a volunteer with the El Paso Police Department, Gang Unit (formerly Tactical Section) under then Commander Richard Wiles. She was presented the "Chiefs Award" in 1997. She stayed with the Gang Unit until April 2001. The police officers called her their "graffiti mama" as she was also serving on the El Paso Anti-Graffiti Steering Committee. Petey joined the Cielo Vista Church in October, 2000 where she also volunteered until she moved to Rio Norte retirement facility in June 2006. It was Petey's wish to be cremated with her ashes placed at the gravesite of her parents in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff and her many friends at Rio Norte, especially Liz and Norma from Angels on Hand for making her home on earth a wonderful place to live. A special thank you goes to Maggie and Joe of Choice Hospice, whose kindness and spiritual guidance at the end was truly appreciated. Recommend that any memorials in her name be sent to Choice Hospice at 800 North Mesa, El Paso Texas 79902. Services under the direction of CRESTVIEW FUNERAL HOME 1462 N. Zaragosa 856-1400
