VIRGINIA LEECH Obituary
Virginia Ross (Stiles) Leech was born March 27, 1921 in Norfolk, Virginia, and died in her sleep January 14, 2014, at the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, Texas. Ginny and Lloyd were an "item" for 78 years. She fell in love with Lloyd as a teenager and they dated through four years of Lloyd's attendance at the Virginia Military Institute. Married on August 1, 1942, Ginny saw Lloyd off to England in preparation for the invasion of Europe, and delivered their first-born, Lloyd III, on February 6th, 1944. After Jane was born in 1947, Ginny braved Lloyd serving in the Korean War, and then saw her son and son-in-law off to Vietnam in the mid-sixties. Ginny was never willingly away from Lloyd, although they were often separated by the circumstances of his service. A talented painter and enthusiastic gardener, Gin loved their retirement home in El Paso and their yearly pilgrimages to South Padre Island. Her life concluded with twenty wonderful years at the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, during which time she and our Dad remained active, traveling and entertaining extensively. Ginny is survived by the love of her life, BG (ret.) Lloyd L. Leech, Jr. Although she lost Lloyd, III, in January 2011, she is remembered and was lovingly attended by his wife Rita. Gin is also survived by her daughter Jane Brooke and husband Colonel George M. Brooke, III, (USMC, ret.) of Lexington, Virginia, and her son Jim and his wife Maria Carmen Romero, of Corpus Christi, Texas. Eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren are alive because of her, and keep her in their hearts. Arrangements are entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX. Interment is at 9 AM Friday, January 31st at the National Cemetery at Fort Sam Houston. A memorial service will be held at the Army Residence Community Chapel, 7400 Crestway Drive, San Antonio, at 11 AM on January 31st, the Reverend C. Bruce Wilson officiating. Donations may be made in Ginny's memory to the Protestant Chapel Congregation at the ARC, 7400 Crestway Drive, San Antonio, TX, 78239. Please sign the guestbook at www.colonialuniversal.com
