Yldefonso G. Luna, 79, of El Paso, Texas passed away April 26, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born on April 25, 1934 in Van Horn, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who worked as a coach and a professional educator for 34 years at El Paso Independent School District until his retirement. Yldefonso was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1955 and he received an honorable discharge in 1957. He was a graduate of Texas Western College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and earned his Master of Education degree from
University of Texas
at El Paso. He was a hard working man and he enjoyed life with his various activities including reading, yard work, drinking a beer with his sons and sons-in-law, listening to music, dancing, playing with his grandchildren, and spending time with his family. He was an extraordinary man with amazing strength and kindness who always offered his love to everyone. He was a wonderful man who we all looked up to and cherished until his last breath. Somebody who was gracious and kind towards others and took in everyone open heartily without judgment. This impeccable man will always be in our hearts and memories. We will always remember the everlasting love he gave and will hold on to the fond memories of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who is now resting in peace. He is now watching over us as an angel in heaven, and will continue to guide us and protect us and he will be greatly missed. We will always love you my husband, dad, and grandpa. He was preceded in death by his parents: Castulo Luna and Antonia Luna, sister, Florinda Calderon, and brother, Artemio Luna. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Teresa De Jesus Luna and his two sons Jerry Luna and wife Rosa Luna, Oscar Luna; his three daughters, Yvette Luna Gonzalez and husband Salvador Gonzalez, Sandra Luna Vasquez and husband John Vasquez, and Lynette Luna Vite and husband Michael Vite; 11 grandchildren, Belinda, Betty, Amber, Heather, Isaac, Rosemarie, Dustin, John, Fabian, Michael, and David; 4 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jayden, Vivian, and Issys. He is also survived by his sisters, Lydia Saenz and Gloria Garcia, and brother, Heradio Luna; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina with Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 3, 2013 at 12 noon at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Active Pallbearers are Jerry Luna, Oscar Luna, Fabian Anthony Luna, Salvador Gonzalez, John Vasquez, and Michael Vite. Honorary Pallbearers will be Isaac Oscar Luna, Michael Anthony Vite, David Anthony Vite, Heradio Luna and Joe Gonzales.
