Benjamin H. Beebe, 79, of Greenfield Twp., died Tuesday March 19, 2013 at his residence following a brief illness. A resident of the Erie area all of his life he was born in Erie on April 29, 1933 a son of the late Harold G. and Caroline Norman Beebe. Benjamin served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict on the USS Midway and USS Coral Sea and went on to serve in the Navy Reserve for 11 years. He worked with Erie City Ironworks and Zurn Industries for 25 years and also worked with the New York Central Railroad for several years. He was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church, the TOPS Club and a life member of the Erie Guild of Crafts. He enjoyed John Deere Tractors and trains. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Dale Arthur Beebe and Garth Wendall Beebe. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Shirley Mae Whitney Beebe; two sons, Benjamin Scott Beebe and his dear friend Darlene Miller of Wattsburg and Mark Craig Beebe, Sr. and his wife Sandy of Greenfield, Twp.; one daughter, Shirleen Irene Felton and her husband Robert of Greenfield, Twp.; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Martha Weed of North East; and several nieces and nephews including, Harold Smith and his wife Rose. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Wales Cemetery.
