GOLD STAR MOTHER
Betty R. Schultz Shaffer, 90, of Girard, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 4, 2014.
She was born December 9, 1923 in Girard, a daughter of the late Claude and Esther Abbey Schultz.
Betty was raised and educated in Girard and attended Rice Avenue Union High School. Throughout her life her priority had been to take care of her family and maintain the family home.
She was a member of the Girard American Legion Post #494 Ladies Auxiliary, the V.F.W Auxiliary, and 40&8 Auxiliary.
She enjoyed playing Bingo and playing cards.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Shaffer, whom she married in 1946; also by a son, PFC William Paul Shaffer who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1967; also four brothers, Charles J Schultz, Earl V. Schultz, Richard A. Schultz, and Claude A. Schultz, Jr.
Survivors include a son, Jack A. Shaffer and his wife, Virginia of Crawfordsville, Ind.; three daughters, Linda S. Quay and her husband Charles of Albion, Cathy A. Markham (Albert Sr.), and Paula M. Shaffer of Girard; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours or services observed.
Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
