Carl Cornell Obituary

Carl J. Cornell, 93, of Greene Township, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center, following a lengthy illness. A resident of Erie all of his life, he was born November 4, 1919, a son of the late Ignatius and Johanna Dembinski Kornacki. Carl attended East High School and Gannon College and went on to serve in the United States Army, with the 3rd Army, 85th Division (Custer), 337th Infantry Regiment, during World War II, where he earned the Bronze Star Medal, 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster. He worked with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as an office manager with Job Services, for 32 years, before retiring in 1982. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 0105, in North East. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Weiner Cornell; two brothers, Theodore and Bernard Kornacki; and two sisters, Rose Lucas and Adeline Parish. Survivors include one daughter, Eugenia A. Cornell of Charlottesville, Va.; one granddaughter, Julie Cornell of Framingham, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of prayer services there at 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, at 12:00 p.m., and entombment will be in Mary Queen of Peace Mausoleum.
