Carl L. Manges, age 80, of North East, died on Friday, April 4, 2014, at UPMC Hamot.

He was born on November 14, 1933, in Corry, Pa., to the late Oscar Monroe and Doris Davis Manges.

Carl was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Marine Corps, as an amphibious transport driver.

He was employed at Hammermill Paper Company, in Erie, for over 30 years.

Carl was a member of St. Gregory Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4789 in North East.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a sister, Luella Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carmella LaFuria Manges, whom he married July 13, 1957 at St. Gregory Church; children, Mark Manges (Barb) of Harborcreek, James Manges of North East, Lorie Vella (James) of North East, Cindy Palmer (Glen) of North East; grandchildren, Brian and Michael Vella, Jennifer Snopko (Matt), Erin, Emily, Kelsey, Jessica, and Carl Manges, Kayla and Morgan Palmer; great-grandchildren, Stella and Kellan Snopko; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake Street, North East, on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9, and are invited to attend a prayer service on Monday at 1:30, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m., at St. Gregory Church. Interment will be in St. Gregory Cemetery, with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to St. Gregory Catholic School, 140 Main Street, North East, PA 16428 or Community Nursing Services of North East Hospice, 7 Park Street, North East, PA 16428.
