Carl "Ray" Johnson, age 86, of Harborcreek, passed away at his residence on Friday, March 21, 2014. He was born in Erie on June 25, 1927, son of the late Henry and Hazel Neff Johnson.
Ray graduated from Academy High School and attended Gannon College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy
, stationed in China and Hawaii during W.W.II. Ray was employed in sales, working at Keystone, Nosco, and Taccones. He then worked at Harborcreek High School until his retirement.
Ray was an active member and long time usher at Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church and for many years was in charge of the summer chicken barbecues at his church and Mount St. Benedict. He was also a member of the East Erie Moose, American Legion Carl Neff Post #571, and the Elks Club
Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Olive Johnson; two daughters, Denise Johnson and Darcy Renner (David); one sister, Virginia Westergren; three grandchildren, Carli (Josh Jankowski), Molly (Rick Damon) and D.J. Renner; one great-grandson, Jax; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd. on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Further visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church on Wednesday, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment, St. Gregory Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Mercy R.C.
