Chris William Matha, age 63, of Meadville, formerly of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Wesbury Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Erie on August 24, 1949, the son of Clifford and Theresa Matha of Meadville. Chris attended Academy High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Vietnam War and the First Persian Gulf War. Chris attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and was a Hull Technician, retiring off the USS NassauAfter retirement he was an instructor at a Naval Firefighting School as a civilian. He enjoyed cooking, landscaping, raising birds and plants, and maintaining his fish tanks and ornamental ponds. Chris was an avid bowler carrying a 215 average and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Besides his parents, Chris is survived by one daughter, Marian Fromknecht (Jon); four brothers, Dale Matha (Pat), Clifford Matha (Kathy), Brad Matha (finace', Linda) and Gregg Matha (Kim); an adopted sister, Nola; six grandchildren, Kaitlynn Rowland (David), Halie, Kennidy, Joshua, and Nathan Fromknecht and C.J. Matha; one great-grandson, Dominick Rowland; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Clifford W. Matha, II, on March 11, 2012. Friends will be received at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Tuesday from 12 Noon until the time of the Memorial Service there at 2 p.m. conducted by Reverend John Jacquel.
