Clarence E. Ishman, age 84 of Waterford, died Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Corry Manor after a courageous 25-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. He resided at Corry Manor for only the past month. Born in Knox Dale, Pa. on December 13, 1927, he was the only child of Clarence Grant and Helen Bullock Ishman. Clarence served with the 6th Division of the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. After the War, he moved to the Erie area and was employed at General Electric while also working as a union bricklayer. He retired from General Electric in 1988 after 37 years. Clarence, for many years, operated a beef farm with the help of his family, and for pleasure, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Family members that survive include his wife, Cynthia S. Bentley Ishman, whom he married August 21, 1963; his step-son, Matthew Simonoff and wife Trish of Erie; daughter, Diana Bernatowicz and husband Richard of Erie; son, Galen Ishman of Waterford; and daughter, Debra Hahn and husband Ronald of Erie. Four grandchildren also survive: Shawn and Christopher Simonoff and Taralyn and Alexis Ishman. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Ishman, and a step-daughter, Sandra Simonoff. Friends are invited to call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be there on Friday morning at 11 a.m. and will be officiated by Pastor James Galvin of the Waterford Baptist Church.
