David A. Johnson, 82, of Hillcrest Dr., Corry, Pa., died peacefully, on Sunday, June 29, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 29, 1932, in Corry, Pa., a son of the late A. Arnold and Vera Aikens Johnson.

Dave was raised and educated in Corry, and was a 1950 graduate of Corry High School. He earned a degree in civil engineering from Penn State University in 1954. After serving in the military police with the U.S. Army, he worked as a design engineer for a Boston-based firm, working on expressways and bridges in Chicago. From 1959 to 1963, Dave worked for C.F. Murphy and Associates, Architects and Engineers, and helped design and construct Chicago's O'Hare Airport. He was eventually promoted to chief civil engineer, working with more than 500 subcontractors, who were involved in the construction of the airfield.

Dave came back home to Corry in 1963, and served as City Engineer and City Administrator for 11 years. He resigned as City Administrator in 1974, but continued on as the City Engineer, for a total of 48 years. In addition, Dave served as Municipal Engineer for 25 surrounding communities. In 1974, he started D. A. Johnson and Associates, an engineering firm. Dave also operated Books and Stuff, a book store, on N. Center Street, and was a licensed surveyor.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Corry, a lifetime member of Stanford Hose Company and the Elks Lodge. He was also a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club and the National Society of Professional Engineers. Dave was a director for Northwest Savings Bank and the Corry Memorial Hospital's "Man of the Year" in 2003.

Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, attending auctions, and wrote a popular weekly column in The Corry Journal, for many years.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Rae Johnson.

Dave is survived by his wife, Jean Merriman Johnson, whom he married on December 23, 1955, in Corry; two daughters, Kathleen Dahl and her husband Gerry of Corry, Pa., and Jan Myers and her husband John of Yorktown, Va.; a son Mark Johnson and his wife Susan of Corry, Pa.; a sister, Barbara Ricci of Florida; and two brothers, Richard Johnson and his wife Trudy of Arkansas, and Gary Johnson and his wife Gloria of Florida.

He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Lynsi Rathbun; Tara Donaldson; Erin Boylan; Rebekah Owen; Rachel, Elisabeth and Tessa Lindsey; and Emily, Caleb and Elijah Myers; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center Street, Corry, Pa., on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m., and attend the funeral service on Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 201 E. South St., Corry, Pa., at 11 a.m. Rev. Brian Eiss will officiate.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Pa.
