David Witherow, age 86, of Erie, embarked on his final road trip on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, following a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family and faithful canine companions, Casey and Travis. David was born July 2, 1927, son of the late David and Jennie (Hinderliter) Witherow.

Dave was a graduate of Harbor Creek High School, and upon graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Japan. He was employed at General Electric, and attended school for masonry and carpentry. Because of this education, Dave built his own home, which he lived in until his passing. In the 1950s, he became a firefighter with the Brookside Fire Department, and served for many years.

Dave enjoyed traveling, camping, bowling, hunting, cooking, canning and playing cards. Among his other favorite pastimes, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dave especially enjoyed his winter home at Outdoor Resorts of Orlando, Fla., where he served as a board member and president for many years.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy, Wayne, Howard, Charles, Paul and Donald, and a grandson, Adam Gray, son of Connie Bryan.

He is lovingly survived by Elizabeth (Connie Conrad), his devoted wife of 67 years; his daughters, Connie Bryan (Paul) of Florida, Janice James (John) of Ontario, Donna Delp (Ralph) of Erie, Vicky Renwick (Johnathan), of Maine, honorary daughter, Joann Lamb (Gary) of Erie and Denise Guy of Pennsylvania. Dave was blessed with nine grandchildren, Tammy Crosby, Andy Osiecki, Rikkianne James, Nicole Parrish, Timothy Wallace, Susan Wallace, David Renwick, Trevor Renwick and Matthew Guy; 18 great-grandchildren; his sister, Doris Pierce (George); his brother, Carl Witherow (Barb) and many nieces and nephews.
