Donald A. Steenrod, 82, of the Wattsburg area, died on Monday, July 16, 2013, at the Veterans
Affairs Medical Center, Erie.
He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on March 25, 1931, a son of the late Archibald and Ruth Steenrod.
Don served in the U.S. Air Force
during the Korean War
. He later volunteered for the U.S. Navy
Reserves and finally for the PA National Guard. He retired from the Guard with a combined service time of over 31 years. He was employed as an inspector for Bucyrus-Erie for 25 years. After their closing, he worked for the VA Medical Center in Erie. He was a past Venango Township supervisor. He had been recognized by the Blood Bank for his generous donation of over nine gallons of blood. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling, hunting and camping.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Imogene G. "Georgia" Moodie Steenrod on July 11, 2011.
Don is survived by five children; Donald D. Steenrod, Wattsburg, Julie L. Maines, Lake City, Darell S. Steenrod, Union City, Darren R. Steenrod, Erie and Jenelle M. Tanner, Wattsburg and by one sister, Gladys Amoroso, Corry. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the C.S. Warthman Funeral Home, Inc., 69 N. Main St., Union City, on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral there Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Audron Seymour of the Wattsburg Baptist Church officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be at Wattsburg Cemetery.
