Donald E. Thompson, age 81, of North East, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 28, 2014 at UPMC Hamot.

He was born on May 19, 1932, in Erie, Pa., to the late Paul E. and Cecile James Thompson.

He was a graduate of North East High School, class of 1950.

Donald was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Marine Corps.

He was formerly employed at the Giant Eagle in Harborcreek and as a produce manager at the AMP grocery stores in North East and Erie, for several years.

Donald was an active member of the Orchard Beach Assembly of God Church, in North East, where he served as an usher.

He enjoyed watching sunsets with his wife, bowling at North East Lanes for Thompson Masonry, and was a member of the North East Senior Center.

Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce J. Finn Thompson, whom he married August 18, 1956; sons, Kenneth Thompson (Ann Laurine) of Erie, Jim Thompson (Kim) of North East; daughter, Lauri Daley (Herman) of North East; brother, Ronald Thompson (Gerri) of Harborcreek; sister, Beverly Tenney (Ron) of Florida; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, on Saturday 7-9 and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9, and are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday at 11:00 a.m., at the Orchard Beach Assembly of God Church, 2025 Orchard Beach Road, North East. Officiating will be Rev. Troy Keith and Rev. Gerald Olshevski. Interment will be in West Mina Cemetery, with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to Orchard Beach Assembly, 2025 Orchard Beach Road, or North East Senior Center, 50 East Main Street, North East, PA 16428.
