Duane E. Bemis, age 55, of Erie, died at St. Vincent Health Center, Monday, December 30, 2013. Born in Erie, he was a son of Gladys (Forbes) Bemis and the Late Clarence W. Bemis.
Duane was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps
Reserves for 21 years and served during Desert Storm retiring as a Company Gunny Sgt. He was the operations manager at Glenwood Beer where he had worked for over 25 years. He was a member of St. George Church and the Erie Maennerchor Club where he played duck pin bowling. Duane also enjoyed golfing, skiing and other sports.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary L. Bemis.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary (Smith) Bemis, of Erie; a daughter, Mallory Anne Bemis, of Erie; two brothers, Kevin Bemis, wife Patty, of Erie and Norm Bemis, wife Sue, of Tidioute, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Bemis and Cathy Smith, both of Erie; a brother-in-law, Joseph Tharp, wife Diane, of Tampa, Florida. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd., Friday, January 3rd from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and to attend prayers there Saturday, January 4th at 9:20 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. George Church at 10 a.m. Committal will be at Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
