Earl Clinton Smith, Sr., age 82, of Harborcreek, died Monday, November 25, 2013 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Erie, on July 13, 1931, son of the late Guy and Elsie Stainbrook Smith.

Earl served in the U.S. Army, in Germany, during the Korean Conflict. He retired from International Paper Company in 1994. Earl was a member of Lawrence Park U.M. Church, and also of American Legion, Carl Neff Post #571. He loved spending time with his family. Earl enjoyed golfing, reading, puzzles, camping and bowling, and loved to spend winters in Florida, until he returned to Erie in 2008, for health reasons.

Besides his parents, Earl was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Courtney Jean Reynolds; a sister Marie Taylor; and two brothers, Clyde and Roy Smith. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice Jean Ester Smith, whom he married on July 5, 1951; six children, Linda Aldridge, of Erie, Susan (Gary) Fassette, Earl, Jr. (Laurie) Smith, and Sandra (John) Jacobs, all of Erie, Karen (David) Hinkler, of Wassila, Alaska, and Randall (Donna) Smith of Union City; four brothers, Charles (Norma) Smith, of Ala., Robert (Alice) Smith, of Waterford, Ray (Marge) Smith and Frank (Joanne) Smith, all of Erie; one sister, Elsie Mae (Gary) Sparks, of S.C.; 20 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of the V.A. Medical Center.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Further visitation will be held on Wednesday, at Lawrence Park U.M. Church, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 11 a.m. Private interment, at Erie County Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
