Edmund J. Statkun, age 87, of Waterford, died at Millcreek Community Hospital, Thursday, January 30, 2014. Born in Simpson, Pa., March 30, 1926, he was a son of the late Benny and Anna (Luchein) Statkun.
Edmund was a veteran of the U.S. Navy
and participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy, during World War II
. He was a chief engineer with the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers for 37 years, before retiring in 1990. He was a member of All Saints Parish and enjoyed fishing, woodworking and making wind chimes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Runell Allen Statkun, and two sisters, Pauline Bruno and Violet Gross.
He is survived by a son, Michael Statkun, of Waterford; two daughters, Lisa Heinspeter, husband Jeff and Anna Hicks, both of Erie; two sisters, Genivie Dingee, of Maine and Margaret Oliveri, of Nevada; a brother, Aloysius Statkun, wife Regina, of Carbondale, Pa.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St., at Greengarden Blvd., Sunday from 12 noon until 5 p.m., and to attend a Funeral Mass at All Saints Parish, 11264 Rt. 97N, Waterford, Monday at 10 a.m. Private burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
