Edward M. Gluvna, 88, formerly of Spartansburg Hwy., Corry, Pa., died on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Amy's Personal Care Home.
He was born on July 10, 1925, in Duquesne, Pa., a son of the late Andrew and Mary Hanyak Gluvna.
Ed and his family moved to Corry when he was a young boy, where he was raised and educated. He attended St. Edwards School (now St. Thomas School), and then graduated from Corry High School in 1942. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy
and served with the Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theater. Following his honorable discharge, Ed returned to Corry and worked at Aero Supply Company until he began working at Raymond Manufacturing (Associated Spring-Barnes Group), in the Production Department. He was at the plant for many years, until his retirement in the early 1980s, as a Production Manager.
Ed was a member of St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church in Corry. He was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus, and a lifetime member of VFW
Post #264 in Corry. He helped organize the Raymond Credit Union. Ed enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death on June 13, 1998 by his wife, Rose M. Gibas Gluvna, whom he married on June 7, 1947 in Corry, Pa.; two sisters, Margaret Macko and Katie Gerzina; and two brothers, Steve and Cy Gluvna.
Ed is survived by a daughter, Marianne Gluvna of Corry, Pa.; a son, Ronald E. Gluvna and his wife Teresa of Corry, Pa.; and three brothers, Albert Gluvna and his wife Amelia of Kittanning, Pa., Bernie Gluvna and his wife Helen of Corry, Pa., and Donald Gluvna and his wife Theresa of Albuquerque, N.M.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, Andrea and Emily Bogert and Aaron, Alec and Abby Gluvna; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held there on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, 26 W. Pleasant St., Corry, Pa., at 10 a.m. Rev. Mark Hoffman will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Corry, Pa.
