Gerald Donald Cassidy, age 79, of Zephyrhills, FL, and Warren, Pa, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013 at his home in Zephyrhills.
Gerald was born September 15, 1933 in Erie, Pa. He is the son of the late Edward J. and the late Edna Rood Cassidy. Jerry was 1952 graduate of Academy High School in Erie, Pa. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force
, serving twenty one years, retiring in 1972 as a Master Sergeant. Throughout his Air Force career, Jerry was a Flight Engineer aboard the KC 141, KC 97, and B29 aircraft in the Korean War
and the Vietnam War
. He was also a Flight Engineer instructor. Following his military career and his move to Warren, Pa., he was employed as a Personnel Director at Solar Electric, and later a Purchasing Agent at the Warren County Rouse Home.
He and his wife Nancy were founding members of the Praise Fellowship Church in Russell, Pa. They also attended Kionia in Erie.
He enjoyed golfing, playing several leagues in Warren, and played every chance he had. He enjoyed travelling, watching sports on television, and especially tennis. Of his many interests, Jerry especially enjoyed his family and many grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Weaver Cassidy, whom he married on November 10, 1956, three daughters: Veronica Andersen and husband Todd, Scandia, Pa., Kimberly Hartenstein and husband Fred of Martinez, Ga., Patricia Snyder of Lexington, N.C. and two sons, Edward J. Cassidy and wife Amber, of Mannington, W.V., and Donald E. Cassidy and wife Sharon, Ephrata, Pa.; two brothers: Richard Cassidy of Erie, Pa., David Cassidy of Warren, Pa.; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and Michael Donnelly, close family friend, of San Francisco, Calif.
Friends will be received at the Praise Fellowship Church 7451 Market St., Russell, PA 16345 on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. A memorial service will then be held with Rev. Rick Rohlin, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Gulf Regional Hospice, 5760 Dean Dairy Road, Zephyrhills, FL. 33541.
