Gregory R. Gehrlein, 67, of Erie, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014 at UPMC Hamot surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in Erie on October 9, 1946, a son of the late Robert P. and Dorothy Anna Clifford Gehrlein.

Greg was a 1964 graduate of McDowell High School and went on to work as an iron worker. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and went on to work with Kupetz Bros., before working as an electrician for 37 years at IBEW Local #56 and retiring in 2008. He served as Assistant Business Agent and Treasurer while at IBEW Local #56. He was a member of Church of the Cross, VFW Post #740, the Elks Club, a life member of the Maennerchor Club, a life member of the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 435.

Greg proudly drove for the Disabled Veterans of America and was a member of the BSA National Motorcycle Club and the Presque Isle Corvette Club. He loved being outdoors where he fished and hunted and especially loved being with his family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Daniel M. and Della N. Jones.

Survivors include Janie Jones Gehrlein, his high school sweetheart, soulmate and loving wife; two sons, Cory Gehrlein and his wife, Maureen of St. Louis and Dave Gehrlein of Erie; two grandchildren, Lauren and Elise Gehrlein; one brother, Tim Gehrlein and his wife, Jan of Erie; many special nieces and nephews; and many special "sons and daughters."

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
