Harry Dwight Martin Jr., 70, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Gary, Indiana to the late Harry and Mary Tomlinson Martin and was raised by his step-mother, the late Alneda V. Goodwyn Martin.
He was a resident of Erie for over 50 years after relocating here from Buffalo, N.Y. He worked for the Barber National Institute for many years in various roles including an assembler. Harry was a active participant in the Special Olympics
, Erie Silent Club, and Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Lakeside Senior Center.
Harry was a member of the St. James A.M.E. Church for many years and was known for his kind heart and helpful soul.
Harry enjoyed bowling, fishing, gatherings with friends, spending time at the Erie Maritime Museum, the sounds of bells in the distance, and had a strong love and passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles. He kept his finger on the pulse of the Erie deaf community which with great honor considered himself as a trailblazer for rights of the deaf.
He leaves to cherish his memory special friends, Molly Brechtel, Jim Fatter, Michelle Perrine, and Larche Community. A special thank you to Josh Johnson and the VNA hospice, Jamie, and residential staff of the Barber National Group Home.
Friends are asked to bring a flower to his visitation which will be Monday, March 17, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. James AME Church, 236 East 11th Street, with a funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Law Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave., Erie.
