Howard Lee Ellis, Sr., age 79, 2601 Jackson Ave., passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 at Twinbrook Medical Center. He was born in Americus, Ga. on February 2, 1934, son of the late Henry and Luella Perry Ellis. He was a resident of Erie for more than 35 years, relocating from Georgia. He was retired from Farrow & Son where he was employed as a truck driver for over 34 years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he served in the Korean War. Howard attended church at the Salvation Army. He enjoyed driving, traveling, reading, watching old westerns on television and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Bibbs and a brother, George Ellis. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Annie Mae Pope of Erie; four sons, Howard Jr., Yancy (Joline), Carl Ellis and Terrance Bibbs (Danielle); four daughters, Teressa Ellis of Virginia, Carmella Swartzfager (Chris), Shirley Perrymond (Lamonte) and Ozella Ellis (Anthony), all of Erie; three brothers, Haywood, Henry and Tom Ellis, all of Buffalo, N.Y.; six sisters, Ruth McCants, Ella Ellis, Iretta Spady, all of Philadelphia, Pa., Margie Ellis, Georgia Jeter, both of Buffalo, N.Y., and Velma Ellis, Binghamton, N.Y.; 24 grandchildren; great-granchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, 5 to 7 p.m., at House of Law, 2926 Pine Ave. A service will follow at 7 p.m. conducted by Rev. Cleveland Ulmer of Mt. Ebal Baptist Church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
