James A. Guerrein, age 75, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Manor Care in Richmond, Va. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on February 8, 1939, son of the late John G. and Ann Stafford Guerrein.

Jim lived in Erie for many years, at 2627 Sassafras St., and later on West 20th St. He attended Strong Vincent High School, and was employed by the Erie School District for 13 years, as a fireman. He retired in 1984, due to disability from polio at the age of three.

Jim enjoyed hunting when he was able, classic movies, and loved animals, especially dogs and cats. He had a strong interest in people, and will be fondly remembered for his wry sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joanne Di Salvo, and a niece Cindy Ann DiSalvo. He is survived by his brother Gerald J. Guerrein and wife Barbara of Midlothian, Va., who lovingly supervised his care during his ten year stay in Virginia. He is also survived by his sister Carol Dombkowski and husband Stanley of Brooksville, Fla., nine beloved nieces, ten great-nieces and nine great-nephews.

A funeral mass will be held on July 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Joseph, Bread of Life Community, 147 West 24 St. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the . The family will be at the church at 9:30 a.m. to accept condolences.

Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Virginia.
