James Bernard Urbaniak, age 74, of Erie, Pa. passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013 following a brief illness. Jim was born in Erie, Pa. son of the late Bernard J. and Louise (Wasielewski) Urbaniak. He was a graduate of Cathedral Prep High School and Penn State University and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Lipinski, on July 5, 1965. He was employed at GTE (now Verizon) in sales for 25 years and later at Wegmans on Peach Street for 15 years. He also worked with his father and uncles in their family businesses at Urbaniak Bros. Quality Meats and Ted and Paul Urbaniak Meats. In addition to his wife of 47 years, he is survived by his children: daughter, Kathy Bailey and her husband, Scott of Seneca, Pa., and sons, Jim Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Erie, Pa. and Dan and his wife, Margaret of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and two grandsons, Josh Bailey of Seneca, Pa. and Ryan Bailey, USAF, stationed at Dover AFB, Dover, Del. Jim is also survived by his brothers, Rev. Msgr. Bernard Urbaniak, St. Stanislaus R.C. Church, Erie, Pa. and Al Urbaniak and his wife, Joanne of Middletown, Ohio, and brother-in-law, Tom Sullivan of Erie, Pa. and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Christine Sullivan in 2011. Jim was a member, volunteer, and Eucharistic Minister at St. James R.C. Church. He was an avid winemaker and enjoyed sharing his creations with others. He had a passion for history and photography. He loved gardening and enjoyed working outside and had an appreciation for nature. Jim will be remembered for being a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was known by all to be hardworking and respectful, and a kind, generous and thoughtful gentleman. He will be deeply missed. Relatives and friends may call at the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, Inc., 459 East 12th Street, Erie, PA 16503 on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Friday at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. James R.C. Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mary, Queen of Peace Cemetery.
