James E. "Jim" Markley, Jr., age 51, died unexpectedly on May 12, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born on May 16, 1962, one of five children of Ruth E. Markley and the late James E. Markley Sr.

Jim graduated from Academy High School in 1980. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a firefighter. He was employed by the Times Publishing Co. and Specialty Distribution Co., as a driver for 16 years. He was forced into retirement by a long battle with lung cancer.

Jim was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church. He enjoyed traveling, especially to New York City. He loved fishing at Presque Isle State Park. Jim was also a devoted sports fan, following the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Cleveland Browns and Indians, and the L.S.U. Tigers. Jim especially liked to take his wife to festivals in the area, and even to Rochester for the Lilac Festival. Jim had a giving and generous heart and was willing to help anyone that needed it. He was a friend of Bill W. He will be eternally grateful for the fellowship found in the four walls.

He is survived by his loving wife Patricia J. Markley and his mother Ruth E. Markley; his daughter Molly Markley and his son Charles M. Visnosky (wife Alyssa) and granddaughter, Zoey. He is also survived by his brothers, David (wife B.C.), Thomas (wife Lori), Ronald (wife Kathi), and his sister, Michelle Levesque (husband Michael), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him well.

Jim was predeceased by his father, James E. Markley, Sr., in 2013, and his grandparents, Howard and Margaret Markley and Ralph and Elizabeth Bartlett.
