James M. Olon, age 83, of Erie, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Saint Vincent Hospital. He was born September 7, 1929 in Oil City, the oldest son of the late Michael J. and Anna R. (Burke) Olon.

He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, as a medic and member of "The Chosin Few" and was attached to the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was an electrician who retired in 1997 from the Erie VA Medical Center. He was an avid fisherman, bowler and loved watching NCAA basketball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Ruth Balot, Barbara Kostek, Frederick and Thomas Olon and Phyllis Olon. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary A. (Pacior) Olon; five children, Robert P. Olon, his wife Barbara Ann of Erie, Marie A. Olon, of Gahanna, Ohio, Diane E. Olon, of Westerville, Ohio, Linda L. Wilford, her, husband Mark of Johnstown, Ohio and John T. Olon, his wife, Anne of Gibsonia, Pa.; four grandchildren, Kathryn and Matthew Olon, Nicholas and Madison Wilford; five siblings, Sr. Geraldine Olon, SSJ., Mary Pilewski, Lawrence, Richard and Eugene Olon; also several nieces and nephews survive.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend services there on Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass on Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 W. 38th Street. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
