January 1, 1937 – August 24, 2013
On August 24, 2013, Janet M. Bindseil passed away following an extended and brave battle with breast cancer
. She accepted God's will with courage, grace and dignity. She was born in Erie, graduated from Villa Maria Academy in 1956 and lived in Erie until moving with her husband to Holly Springs, N.C. in 1996.
Janet joins her mother and father, Margaret and Charles Farrell, in heaven. She leaves behind her loving husband of 50 years, Larry; her children and their spouses: Jim (Johanna), Debbie (Chris) Boulware, Dave (Suzanne), Greg, and Teresa (Chris) Ulmer; and her sweet grandchildren: Sara, Lucas, Alec, Meghan, Zachary, Nathan, Gabby, Lucy and Ruby. She is also survived by her siblings: Tim (Clare), Mary (Georges) Garinther, Treva (John) Laskowski and Karen (Jack) Selleny; and her loving in-laws: Edwin (Dolores) Bindseil and Sister Marie Celeste Bindseil
Janet was a person of great faith which guided her daily life. She was a devoted wife and caring mother, who enjoyed raising her kids, teaching and supporting them in all their pursuits. As an active member of Our Lady of Peace Church for 30 years, she served as a Eucharistic minister and an officer in the PTA and in the women's society.
She particularly loved arranging the flowers and decorating for holiday masses. Her most fulfilling experience was volunteering in the St. Vincent NICU, holding and giving a loving touch to preemie babies. Giving her time and talents, Janet was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Janet was fortunate to experience different cultures with Larry on their travels to many interesting places around the world. She was also a wonderful cook, who shared her baking skills with her granddaughters. Her specialties will be missed almost as much as her smile, her laugh and her hugs. What Janet loved most of all was spending time with her beloved family and her wonderful friends. Whether playing golf, bridge, card/board games or attending parties with Colony pool and other long-time friends in Erie, she was happy because she was with people she cared for deeply.
Please join her family to honor and celebrate her life at a Memorial service at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 West 38th St. in Erie on Saturday, September 7th at 10:30 a.m. The family will welcome relatives and friends at a luncheon reception at the Zem Zem Shrine club at 2525 W. 38th St. immediately following the memorial service.
