Jeffery Richard Gault, age 64, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on April 3, 1950, the eldest son of Richard and Louise (Childress) Gault.
Jeff enlisted in the U.S. Army
after high school, proudly serving in the 82nd Airborne division, stationed in Fort Bragg, N.C. He moved to Erie after his military service, married and started a family with Peggy Mickol, and began one of his many careers. He worked in motion pictures, filming, and developing high school sporting events, worked in management at UPS, and later became involved in real estate, as an agent and developer. Jeff worked in Mayor Rick Filippi's administration for four years. Most recently, he returned to real estate, working as a realtor at REMAX, and developing his own projects.
Jeff put 150% into everything he was involved with. His care and concern for the growth and development of Erie, in particular the Bayfront, is well documented by his civic presence in numerous community projects.
Jeff was the founder and moving force of BABO, "Bayfront Access and Beautification Organization." This non-profit entity was his brain child and functioned to develop infrastructure on the Bayfront, making the area more accessible to the public and make the property abutting the Bayfront Highway more "park like."
He was involved in establishing Eight Great Tuesdays, and active in LEAF, Presque Isle Partnership, Flagship Niagara League, Jazz Erie, Greater Erie Board of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, and Apartment Association of North Western Pennsylvania. Jeff showed up . . . spoke up . . . and was willing to volunteer for any project that would enhance Erie and make it a better place.
His love of music and support of local venues took Jeff and Sandy to many dance floors throughout Erie. They were known as the "dancing couple," and were often asked to start the first dance. Jeff went out of his way to make sure people supported the local music scene.
Jeff started a First Thursday tradition over 12 years ago. On the First Thursday of every month, Jeff opened his home and welcomed friends, friends of friends, and anyone else who wanted to show up. He put any newcomers at ease and made everyone feel at home. Many good times were had and friendships formed. Jeff was a kind and gracious host to all who came through his doors.
Jeff loved life every day and lived every minute to the fullest. He will be missed and fondly remembered by the many people whose lives he touched.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his daughter, Ginger Gault, and her son Jaxson Simon, of Erie; his son, Shawn Gault, his wife Karin Davie, and their son, Vincent J. Davie Gault, of Azusa, Calif.; Jeff's companion, Sandy Kosiorek of Erie, her daughter, Julie Beck, her husband Cliff, and their sons, Michael, Matthew, Mason and Marcus, of Erie; her son David Kosiorek, his wife Christina, of Bellview, Fla.; Jeff's brother, Tim Gault, his wife Sandi, of Valencia, Calif.; and his sister Laurie Friesen, and her husband Dave, of Tehachapi, Calif. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, and his former wife, Peggy Bird.
