Jeffrey Ray Landis, Sr., age 65, of Erie passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Monday, December 31, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Erie on March 27, 1947 a son of the late Ray and Norma (Gleason) Landis. He was a graduate of Academy High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War. Jeff worked as a plumber (Local 47) for Scobell Company. At the time of his retirement in 2010 he was part owner of the company. Jeff was the co-chairman of the Jensen, Landis, Jr. Memorial Fund for Children's Charities which was setup in memory of his son Jeff Jr. and brother-in-law Rich Jensen. The annual golf tournament raised $250,000 for local children's charities during a 12 year period. He was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. Most of all he enjoyed the time spent with family. Granddaughters, Emilee Rose and Madison Marie Landis were the lights of his life. "Papa Kota" as he was affectionately called, never missed a soccer or softball game, dance recital, swim meets or any of their school functions. Jeff was a member of the Danish Brotherhood, Sommerlyst Club and the Zukor Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jeffrey Landis, Jr., a sister-in-law Louise Jensen and a brother-in-law Rich Jensen. Jeff is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Lee (Jensen) Landis, his sons Michael Landis and his wife Carrie of Erie and Mark Landis and his wife Lisa of Girard; his granddaughters Emilee Rose and Madison Marie Landis; siblings Cheryl Landis of Titusville, Fla., Chris O'Leary and Greg Landis and his wife Marilyn both of Erie; Joyce Jensen: mother-in-law, his in-laws; Barb Jensen, John Jensen and his wife Chris, Chris Koehle and her husband Bill, Debbie Sawtelle and her husband Dave, Craig Jensen and Ann Swanson and her husband Ron. He is also survived by his Uncle Bob Landis and his wife Ethel of Statesville, N.C. He will always be fondly remembered as Uncle "Plumber" or Uncle Jeff by many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Blvd. Services will be held there on Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jerry Gray. Burial with full military honors in Erie County Memorial Gardens will follow. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Jensen, Landis, Jr. Memorial Fund for Children's Charities, c/o the Erie Community Foundation.
