Jerome "Jerry" J. Bednaro, age 78, passed away Sunday morning, March 16, 2014, at his residence in Erie. He was born in Erie February 14, 1936, son of the late Jacob and Helen Buczynski Bednaro.

He is survived by a sister Mary Jane Malaszek and her husband Edward of Buffalo, N.Y., many nieces, great-nieces and great-great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Hillary Bednaro and James "Jimmy" Bednaro, his sister Irene Petak and an infant sister.

Jerry graduated from East High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Germany. After his honorable discharge from the military, Jerry became a City of Erie Police officer, retiring as a Sargent. He was a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Parrish where he was active in all three churches. One of his favorite pastimes was "hanging" with his nieces Nikole and Janelle.

Friends may call at the G. R. Bailey Funeral Home, 4396 Iroquois Ave., Lawrence Park, Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., where a prayer service will be conducted Saturday morning at 9:30, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Casimir Church at 10. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Retired Erie Police Officer Association will hold a brief memorial service at the funeral home, Friday at 3 p.m.
