John B. Woodard Obituary
John B. Woodard, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday October 11, 2012, at home in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born on June 7, 1945 in Olean, N.Y. and grew up in nearby Eldred, Pa. He graduated from Otto-Eldred High School in 1963 and attended Penn State University, earning B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Physics. He spent many years in both academia as a professor at St. Bonaventure University and as a corporate executive in the research and development fields at Hysol (Olean, N.Y.), Combustion Engineering (Stamford, Conn.), ITT Power Systems (Tucson, Ariz.), and Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Sciences (IAMS, Cincinnati, Ohio). John was admitted to the Federal Patent Bar and operated a patent prosecution practice in Cincinnati at the time of his death. He was an avid bicyclist and also enjoyed sailing, hunting, and tennis. He volunteered his time as a board member of the Salvation Army and volunteered as Treasurer of the Cincinnati Inventors Council. He was preceded in death by his father John L. Woodard and mother Geraldine E. Woodard. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Eleanor "Fran"(Petroff) Woodard, his son Jon of Erie, his daughter Kathryn of Cincinnati, and his granddaughter Anna Elizabeth of Erie in addition to his wife's brothers and sisters. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. Erie, PA 16504 on Thursday, October 18th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and are invited to services there on Friday morningat 10 a.m., officiated by Rev. Jerry L. Gray.
