John C. Ditrich, Jr., age 76, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday evening September 29, 2013. He resided in Harborcreek Township. He was born in Erie May 15, 1937, son of the late John C. and Margaret Vincent Ditrich, Sr.
He is survived by his two sons Vincent Hunter Ditrich and Jay A. Ditrich both of Harborcreek, a sister Susan Ditrich of Millcreek Twp., a brother Charles J. 'Farmer" Ditrich of Harborcreek, a daughter-in-law Betty Ditrich of Meabon, N.C., a sister-in-law Marilyn D. Mack of McKean, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne Mack Ditrich, a son William H. Ditrich and a sister Kathleen Ditrich.
John graduated from Erie Cathedral Prep High School and attended Purdue University
. He formerly worked for the Pa. State Game Commission and was the District Justice for Harborcreek Township for over 12 years, after which he was a Horse Racing Official. John operated Opies Restaurant for a number of years before retiring. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and horse racing. He also enjoyed wine and beer making. John liked cooking, gardening and was a sports fan.
Friends may call at the G. R. Bailey Funeral Home 4396 Iroquois Avenue, Lawrence Park Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services and burial at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery will be Private.
