John C. Guse Jr. Obituary

John C. Guse Jr., 88 years young and a resident of the VA Medical Center, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Chicago, Ill. on August 19, 1925 a son of the late John Sr. and Carrie Grimms Guse.

John proudly served his country with United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star and was part of the "Greatest Generation."

John worked with Melco as a welder for many years and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He belonged to the American Legion Carl Neff Post #571 in Wesleyville, the Siebenbuerger Club, and the Lawrence Park Coin Club. He was an avid coin collector and greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Fritts Guse; one daughter, Kathy Mullins and her husband, Kevin; one brother, William Guse; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Larner.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen Peters and her significant other, Ron Grams of Chicago, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Sasha Mullins of Chicago; son-in-law, Bob Larner and his wife, Joy of Erie; a sister-in-law, Aleene Guse of San Rafael, Calif.; an adored best friend and companion, June Mueller and her wonderful family of Erie; grandchildren, Cassidy Mullins of Chicago and Charlotte Mitchell and her husband, Tom of Union City; his former wife, Loraine Larsen Guse of Chicago; and many cousins and friends.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until the time of services there at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Erie Cemetery.
